One Story, One Saviour

This blog is here to try and point the way to Jesus with thoughts, messages and updates to help us on our journey of faith.

“You search the scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.” John Chapter 5 v39-40

The Study of the Bible in and of itself does not impart life. Reading the Bible is not a lesson in improving your Bible skills, a competition as to who can show off by knowing the most!

Jesus is referring to the Old Testament here when he uses the word scriptures because  at the time its written there is no New Testament. He says the Scriptures testify about him, “It is they that bear witness about me”. This means the whole of the Old Testament is about Jesus.

The Pharisees and the Jewish opponents of the day missed the point, they read the Scriptures, they knew the stories of old, but they missed the purpose for which they were given. They failed to see that the scriptures were all about Jesus who was stood before them. There was a huge disconnect!
Faith, the word of God, this journey we call life is about finding our place in Gods story and seeing that there is one story and one saviour and knowing him brings freedom and new life!

Thanks

Dan
